The Bechdel test for Women in Movies

If you’ve ever thought about writing a movie script for a Hollywood movie, you should know that there’s a huge unexplored theme:… women! In this video, posted at the great blog Feminist Frequency, you can have a look at the big number of movies that do not pass this simple test suggested by the comic artist Allison Bechdel in 1985. Next time you watch a movie ask yourself: 1. are there two or more women in it who have names? 2. Do they talk to each other? 3. Do they talk to each other about something other then a man? You will be shocked!

You misspelled the name! It is BeCHDel not BeDCHel.

  3. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me. Who can forget Soundgarden, another Seattle based grunge band with their alt hit “Black Hole Sun” or the Goo Goo Dolls with their hit song “Slide”.
